Camera issues!

Hi all.
I love my DROID x but I've always had camera issues (both still and video). But it only got worse after the ota update.
Now half of the videos I take end up being non-playable. Kinda frustrating especially when its something important.
I thought about getting a different camera app but I would think it wouldn't help since any app would still be using the phone's actual system app. Is that correct?
I also tried checking my sd card for errors etc. according to someone else in this forum but it checks out fine.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Haven't seen any posts r/t camera, but I've seen many about keyboard issues. Everyone suggests going into settings/applications/manage applications/all. There is a one for phone and one for gallery. I don't want to say it will work for sure, but clearing data out of your camera might clear up the issue. It does when the keyboard acts up. I just don't know if there is any relationship between the camera and gallery app. Obviously don't want to wipe pics/videos you have.
