Android doesn't (by default) connect to ad-hoc networks. This holds true for the galaxy tab as well. Ic, however, you modify the tablet to allow it to connect to ad-hoc wick then yes, wick tether would work for any android tablet. I think the wireless tether app is a standard wick network though, at least it seems like it on my laptop... barnacle is definitely an ad-hoc
I believe the 3g hack is not ad hoc. So it should work. I read that somewhere. My son runs his unactivated original droid off my droid x all of the time.
