can Android apps be transferred between phones or tablets with same O/S

Aloha,
Insurance is getting me a new phone, having problems with this one. is there a process to transfer apps from one Android phone to another Android device???
If not what are my options i.e. several screenshots of each home screen???

If you use the same Google account on the replacement all the apps will (still) be installable even paid apps. The data, on the other hand, would be a problem unless you had first been rooted, on the old phone, and backed up with a root aware backup app.
