Can PIM and Calendar data sync be disabled?

I dont have a need to sync my PIM (calendar, contact, task, memo) data with google. Can the Droid X be used, with the sync feature disabled?

I would like to backup my Droid X data to my pc, but do not really want to sync it all to google.
