Can someone explain battery charging?

Hey guys,

I currently own a Razr Maxx and I tether a lot. I recently canceled my home internet connection, and I use my Razr Maxx as my primary connection. My major problem is maintaining a charge. Earlier today, I started tethering with about 85 percent indicated on my phone. It's been about 5 hours, and I'm down to 60 percent. The phone has been plugged in to the stock charger the whole time. To prevent overheating, I tried placing the phone near an ice pack. It cooled the phone, but it didn't change the rate of discharge.

Is this normal? I'd like to be able to maintain a charge while tethering.

Your help is appreciated.

Sounds like you have a weak signal. Have you notice a change in the amount of bars you have?....even that doesn't filly explain it... I'm going on the fact that you cancelled Internet. Does that Also mean, no wifi? I'm assuming of course the answer us yes.... The only other thing that comes to mind is that the battery is on its way out. I hope it turns out to be something fixable.
