Can the Droid 3 be used for a different carrier if I sell it used? Thanks.

Hey guys! I'm selling my Droid 3. I got a buyer for it. But he wants to know if it has a clean ESN. I told him it does. And it's deactivated. But he wants to use it for a different carrier. Is this possible?

No, it can only be used with VZ. If you get the unlock code from VZ you can swap out sim cards but that would be more expensive than staying with VZ.

Sorry, your friend will be buying an expensive boat anchor.

There are ways to flash cdma phones to other carriers, this may be what he's thinking. Around the Dallas area people are looking to flash older Droids to MetroPCS all the time.

Regardless that's on him as the buyer...

It does have a sim card, but for GSM service outside the US.

So It's safe to say pretty much no. Would be to much of a hassle I guess. Thanks guys for the help..

To even get an unlock code from Verizon, the phone would have to be active and would've had to have been active for at least 90 days. There was a guy from Bolivia in another forum who claimed to have unlocked an unactivated D2G with something called a "Smart Sim," but none of the websites I found that advertised it seemed reputable.
