Can you create custom ring tones for different contacts?

So im not seeing where you can select a different ringtone for a particular contact.. does anyone know where this option is, or if it even exists?

Go into contacts and push the menu key. It should give you the option to edit the contact. The option should be there somewhere. You might have to hit a drop down menu that's labeled more (maybe). If you want something a little more exotic try ring pro. It let's u assign individual notification souns as well. And finally if you want to make your own ringtones try ringdroid. FYI the apps I mentioned you can get for free in the market.

Edit. When you click on a contact hit the menu button and then hit the option button.

Hey there .. first off id like to say thanks for taking time to reply.. unfortunately, i did go through the edit contct details quite thoroughly prior to my inquiry on the forum with no avail... i honestly dont need anything fancy like creating my own ring tones. The standard built in ones will do. But i would really like to have a different ring tone for my girlfriend than the rest of the world. Or a different sound for emails vs txt msgs.. they all sound the same and its bugging me.. il take a look at those apps your suggested .. its unfortunate something that simple doesnt come baked in.. tou have to dl an app for that . Thnks again

Here's another thought .. now that i figured out the ringtone situ.. do you know of a unique txt sound? on my blackberry, i just came from, I had custom rings and txt msg noises .. so when i received a txt from my gf... i knew that txt was from here as opposed to the rest of txt,s i receive

Unfortunately on these moto phones we don't have that option. We can't assign individual notification sounds to our contacts. But you can assign different notification sounds to your email accounts and things of that nature. Only way to get individual notification sounds for contacts is by downloading a 3rd party app.

If there isn't a readily available stock notification sound you're happy with, you can always download ringdroid from the market and create one using a song you have saved to the phone, or download zedge as it has a library of literally thousands or more. Unfortunately, i can't offer much more than that, as what you think sounds unique and sounds the same, and what i think sounds unique or sounds the same will be different.

EDIT: oops, sorry...guess i should have read the last post a little more carefully. Yes, km75 is correct; at this time there is no way of setting a specific text tone for a single person on a stock device. I'll look and see if I can find a workaround for you, though.

Download Handcent SMS. It replaces the stock messaging app (which IMO is the most hideous I've ever seen on a Motorola), and you can have different text sounds for each individual contact.
