cannot make or receive calls/texts

On and off at least a few times a week I am unable to make or receive phone calls and texts, this can last from minutes to hours. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to why this is happening. I can be in an area where I usually have great reception and the phone will say "no reception". People trying to call me say that they get a message that says that my phone number is not in service. Does anyone else have this problem, and if so do you know how to fix the issue?

Oooh. Network issues? Have you rooted your droid? If you're running a ROM, you might try re-flashing it. If you're not, you might just have a bad handset. How long have you had the phone?
