Cannot mount Droid over USB

I plug it into the computer and then i drag down the drawer and click the notification, i then click mount. Then it changes to "Turn off USB storage and without me even doing anything it changes to Preparing SD Card at which point i am back to the beginning. why wont it mount. this is very annoying

That's not right, somethings interfering with either the USB connection or the sdcard....try rebooting your phone and see if that helps any...

Yeah i already tried rebooting twice, i tried formatting, i dont know whats going on

I fixed it by reinstalling the Sholes ROM, i dont quite know how this made it work but it did.
