Cant Change Notification Sound

I am unable to change the Preset Notification sound on my Droid Incredible. It says that it is a different sound but it still sounds like the old one. Please Help me, this is getting really annoying!

Also, If it is possible, Can I get some help getting custom notifications for my phone?

Welcome to the Forum! I have a Droid so my experience may be different.

Open the app, tap menu, tap settings, tap notifications, tap ringtone. Additionally, I can tap menu, tap setting, tap notification, tap ringtone.

That is what I have been doing. It Says that I have changed the sound, But it doesnt actually change it.

This is all preset sounds. I had it on Chiff and changed it to Guitar2.
Still sounds like chiff no matter what I do.

Im not using an app. I am just using what is already on my phone

OK that would the the stock messaging app. You can download Handcent. Are you able to change the sounds for email, phone, or contacts?

so you can change the phone ringtone and add a special ringtone to contacts. Good!

Handcent is an messaging app free in the market. Open the market and search for handcent.

Okay I have handcent now and is working great. The problem now is I get messages from both handcent and my regular message system. Which means I also get the old annoying notification sound and the sound I want at the same time...

Yep. One the stock app and turn off the notifications

Open the text app that you were using prior to Handcent. Tap menu, tap settings, tap notifications and turn off

I am not using an app. my phone has a messaging system in it already. that is what i am using. I dont know how to turn it off.
