Can't download pics sent in txts

Hi I've had my milestone for almost a yr now n I love it. But for some reason I can never download pics, when I try it says downloading then stays like that for a long while then it just stops does anyone know what I can do any help would b great ty.

With my Thunderbolt I am able to hold a finger on the pic (not tap) and a menu pops up with options to save or view. Tap save and it saves it to gallery. I hope this is helpful.
