Can't edit Contacts

I set up my contacts by syncing my Outlook Contacts with Android Sync. When I try to edit the contacts it says "Email contact is not editable on this phone". When I try to delete a contact it says "You cannot delete contacts from a read-only accounts". I have tried to "clear data" for Contacts from settings/applications/contacts but it does not remove the data. My phone is rooted and there must be a way to fix this-help!
