It downloads fine, appears in the notification tray as completed, I click on it, the screen with permissions appears, I try to hit Install, but no response. If I hit Cancel, it quits.

I've cleared both regular cache and Dalvik, rebooted and still nothing. Anyone?

I am on 2.3.6 (6.12.173.XT912.Verizon.en.US), Rooted, but otherwise stock.

Did you try downloading it from a computer, and transferring it over?

No, but I've found I also can't install any apps on backups, but apps downloaded from the market are installing fine.

Strange...

You sound like a more advanced user so I'd figure this was a given, but even advanced users forget simple things sometimes (I know I do); have you checked download from unauthorized sources in your settings?

Do you have USB debugging selected or unselected?

Selected, as normally. Never had this problem before with debugging selected so I don't expect that is the problem either.

I never discount the knowledge of anyone no matter whether they are new or experienced, old our young. We can all learn from each other.

I did double check after your suggestion, but the option is checked as well.

Well, I don't know the exact problem but...

I do know it is a service or app that's running after a normal boot sequence. I ran TaskManager and selected ALL apps. Let it do its thing, came back in 5 minutes and whala~! The apps are installing without a hitch.

To troubleshoot, I took screen shots of all running services, then rebooted, let it boot normally, tried to install, no go. So again I took screen shots of running services, then turned the screen off, 5 minutes later (after TaskManager did its thing), and low and behold, installations working again. So I took screen shots one more time of running services, and now I just have to do a process of elimination.

This could be a very effective new way of troubleshooting all kinds of problems. I'll let you all know how it goes, then I'll write up a procedure manual of sorts. I plan to include all the troubleshooting techniques I can find, all I know of and if there are any suggestions, I'll include those as well. My intent is to make it a "Sticky" that we can point newbies and others to, so we're not always saying the same things over and over.

Wish me luck!!

;)

Screen Adjuster is the cause!!

Good luck and may The Force be with you.

Seriously, that sounds like a great idea and one that would be very helpful to all of us.

Hey SallyC and anyone else who wants to try, please install Screen Adjuster and activate it, then try installing an app from a download, such as from a website link Please see if it allows you to press the <install> button.
