Can't reboot into recovery

Im rooted ..on .596, I have rom manager and DROID x bootstrap. Trying to reboot into recovery to flash apex2.0 rc 2, and all I keep getting is a black blank screen...... any ideas as to way could be wrong??????

I know when using Droid X bootstrap, USB debugging needs to be on (check the box to enable it). I am not sure if that is related to your black screen though, in my experience the phone just rebooted completely.
