Can't Set Ringtone

I go to phone ringtone settings and set my default ringtone but it will not take. It plays the ringtone when I select it but when I come back to look at it nothing is selected. Phone will not ring at all. All my volume settings are all the way up. Everything else seems to work fine. Any suggestions?

1. Do you have the ringtone in a folder named ringtones on the microSD card?
2. Is it an MP3 file?

Yes I have ringtones but none of them would work. I did a factory reset and it works fine now.
