Car mode without mount?

I'm running the "Car Home" app to launch car mode, but nothing ever happens. Do I need the mount or a magnet to get this to work, or should it change modes simply by running the application?

No, but you still have to click on one of the buttons....

yes running car home will take you into the google navigation app just as if it were in the car dock... i dont have the car dock but i have used it several times with no issues.

I would imagine that you can use any dock because as soon as you start the navigation the screen doesn't turn off anyway. All it does is switch directly to navigation screen.
