Changing LauncherPro

Was wondering how I can change out LP for a themed version. With it being built into Liberty how can I do this? I tried renaming it to a .bak in root explorer, rebooted and tried to install a themed version but it fails. I'm a newb and thought that might do it. Are there more files to adjust etc?

I'm by no means an expert by I would try installing ADW then use Root Manager to uninstall Launcher Pro, reboot then install your themed Launcher Pro then remove ADW. Doesn't sound elegant but should work.
