I was wanting to know if there was an easy way to change the Font for the Droid X. Currently, I am rooted and I am still on 2.1u1. I haven't installed bootstrap yet, but plan on doing it soon as ROMs seems to be down the pipe soon. Anyways, I am looking for a font like the one from the droptheme or dark edge themes. I am so tired of the stock theme and want to see what the pros know about changing the font. :)

I'm no pro but..

Download a font you like in .ttf format
Make a file on your sdcard called original fonts
Go buy root explorer off the market
Now use root explorer and go to system/fonts hit mount r/w on top
Press menu button then multi select
Tap on Droidsans.ttf and Droidsans-Bold.ttf
Tap copy on bottom
Press back button twice
Tap sdcard
Go into original fonts file and paste Droidsans.ttf and Droidsans-bold.ttf

That's for safe keeping....

Using root explorer again
Find fonts you wanted to use and rename Droidsans.ttf and Droidsans-Bold.ttf
Go to system/fonts
Paste new fonts over old fonts
Now hold finger on Droidsans.ttf hit permissions
Make it look like my screenshot at bottom
Do this again with Droidsans-Bold.ttf
Now reboot and your done.

I would get bootstrap but that's just me I love having a backup!
Still have one of my original droid and I don't even own it anymore.

Perfect. Thanks for the steps! Worked like a charm. Was getting tired of that old font. I appreciate the help. :)

Hmm. Tried this out...now I'm stuck at an infinite "M" symbol. Are you guys running 2.2, rooted, deodexed? I would love to do this and I followed every step...seems to not work. I'll retry this again...

I also have a theme installed (NexTHEME). Could this be a part of the issue? The solution from un-freezing the M startup lock is reinstalling the theme...

Any ideas for a work-around?

It should work perfectly on any theme

I'm running 2.2 deodexed with the revolution theme 1.1 works fine
You changed the permissions right?
This has worked on my original droid too so as far as I know it should work on all androids when rooted.
What font are you trying to use?

I changed the permissions as prescribed in the screen shot.

I'm going to try this in ADB before I go to work...maybe that will do something.

Ok post results

I've only used root explorer to do it so let me know how it goes
What are you running? 2.2 and deodexed right?

Advantages are that its bone stock 2.2 deodexed (it keeps your root, too), and all the bloatware is removed for you. It's just a super easy way of getting to a deodexed 2.2 build without having to manually remove bloat and deodex your phone.

Use bootstrap to restore back to your back up

I hope you took my advice and got bootstrap on your phone before doing this
If so just restore with that and try pushing the font with adb I guess...someone else in this forum had to push it for it to work
I just used root explorer..no problems
