Charging Droid X via USB

When I plug in my X to a computer it has the USB symbol and the charging sign but the battery level doesnt seem to go anywhere. How do I fix this?

Could be the specific USB port you use is supplying very low power, at most they will supply <500ma, My droid 1 factory charger puts out 850ma, and it charges twice as fast as plugging it in to my computer, if not faster. Try a different usb port, that may help, ones directly on the motherboard (not the ones on the front of the computer) On my droid i can actually drain the battery faster than i can charge it on the computer if i'm tethering or playing a game/browsing the web. So whenever i need to do some power intensive stuff i always bring my wall charger.

That makes sense. Its my work computer and I have no front USB ports but there is a cable going from the bakc of the computer to my monitor which then has two USB ports on it. I will try to use one of the back ports and see how it works.

Thanks!

Edit: Could this also contribute to the slow transfer rate through USB I posted about yesterday?

Iv had my phone plugged into the computer for an hour and it still reads 50%

Is something wrong with my phone or is it the computer/USB? I wouldnt think it would take so long.

Try using your wall charger when you get home, see if that seems to charge it. It should charge from near dead to full charge in ~2 hours if not used. I would have guessed that the monitor usb would have been the culprit, as the longer the voltage has to travel, the lower it gets. Try downloading BatteryLeft and set the widget to Voltage, see if it increases at all when you plug it in to the computer and then try it on the wall charger. Mine usually jumps up 100-200 mV when i plug it in. If it takes much longer than 2 hrs on the wall charger without using the phone while its charging, i would take it back for a replacement. Also, yes, even if you have USB2.0 on the computer, if you go through the monitor, more than likely it will switch you back to USB1.1 and kill your transfer rate. Transferring data TO the phone should be about 2MB per second, FROM the phone should be 6-10MB/s. Good luck :)

Take the device out of PC mode and put it to charge only. It works MUCH MUCH faster that way

With my Droid I've even had the charge drop. That's because our house is in a bad place for cell phones and since I had a weak signal it consumed more power than was going in.

Sorry for the delayed response, busy weekend.

restart your x and plug it in. Does it start charging? If it does, do you use a task manager?

It says its charging anytime I plug it in to the USB port. What task manager are you referring to? On the phone or computer? I didnt know there was one on the phone.

I will look for that app and report back. The wall charger charges it pretty quick, its just seems to be slow via USB. And it does it on my laptop at home so its not just the crappy work computer.

I dont have my wall charger with me but a quick check with the USB cable in the mV go from 4080 (unplugged) to 4140 (plugged in). The doesnt seem like a big difference. I will check it with my wall charger later today.

Just to follow up, putting the USB in charge only mode instead of PC makes it charge a LOT faster. Everything is good now. dancedroid
