Check new software issue

Hey guys and ladies first post. I just got my Incredible 2 a few days ago. I've been going through everything and making sure all is cool. Awesome phone. One thing though, when I go into settings and then software update, the "check new" is grayed out. I've tried with WiFi on and off but no change. Is this phone set like that by default until an update is available, or is something wrong? Thanks for your help.

Figured it out. Apparently where I'm at is considered a roaming area. My wife however is not go figure. Verizon says I'm on a different tower? I wentvinto the big city today and, voila, I have a software update for 2.3.4 ready. Is there a way to change my tower so I can get my updates??

Try the dialing of *228, listen for the prompts and select option 2 which may bring in your area's cell tower. The phone may rest after. Did your phone come from a different location?

Yea we bought them in a neighboring city. We live in a small town. For some reason hers is fine, but mine says um in an extended network and roaming. We don't receive roaming charges so that's ok, but I can't check for updates. I'll try the number, thanks for the response.
Ok the number says I'm not authorized and gave me no options and programming unsuccessful came on my screen. Oh well, thanks anyway.

Anyone know how to get off of the extended network? Should I not be able to use the same towers as the other two phones (both Stratospheres)?

Try going into settings > call and see what preferred network is? Mine is set to Global.

Sent to today from yesterday using tomorrow's technology.

Then off it goes, thanks. I live in Kentucky we don't leave the state, much less the country lol
