I am looking for a different messaging app and came across this one. Does anyone use this+ Looking for some feedback on it before I waste my time with it.

The big ones are handcent, chomp, and go sms. I like go sms the best so far although the latest version is having some issues with the notification preferences.

I prefer handcent above all others. Select individual rintones for any contact, lcd blink color and rate, pop up notification, host of other options. Tried chomp and did not like the UI

I saw in a youtube video that when you get a new message, handcent will turn the screen on and show you the message right away. Is there a way to change that, to keep the message closed/hidden until you unlock the screen and open the message yourself? If not then i may go with Go sms.

All three of the big three have options for all of that type of stuff.

I use chomp as my text app and i love it.. i had handcent briefly and wasn't too thrilled.... chompsms is the one for me.... fyi.. I'm using a droid 1....

Handcent for me, but I have never tried the others. Handcent did everything I wanted and then some, is very configurable and easy to use.

I used handcent for a long time and loved it but recently found go and I love it. The UI is pretty sweet

I use Aim(Aol Instant Messenger). Its free, simple and easy to use.
When you send an IM to someone's phone, it'll be an IM to you and a text to the recipient.
