WSJ is reporting that Chrome OS will fold into Android by 2017. Alphabet, the parent company, is looking to have one single operating system running on PC, tablets, and phones. With a lot of people adopting Chrome as their primary browser Google can push more of their services on devices such as Mac's and PCs.

One operating system to rule them all.

This is the one area that Google got right over Apple and Microsoft. They extended their apps and services beyond just android to iPhones, iPads, Macs, and Windows computers and phones. There was a time that android users would have been glad to make use of the iTunes store (there were even a bunch of 3rd party apps that were popular to help sync iTunes content to android), but now that Google and Android has evolved to where they are at it may be too late for Apple to try and push their content now.
