At the SXSW event in Austin, TX, Sundar Pichai, Google's Android and Chrome head, just shared some intriguing details about Chromecast. The little super-device has already sold units in the millions. Pichai wasn't exactly specific, but those numbers are still impressive. He also shared something which will likely increase those sales in the future. Very soon the Chromecast will have even wider availability as Google plans to release it in the UK and Australia soon. So far, the Chromecast was only available in the United States.
As a reminder, it was also only very recently that Google opened up the Chromecast SDK to developers. This has already accelerated the development of new apps and services for the device. The Chromecast is quickly turning into the perfect media streaming hub.
Speaking of SDKs, Pichai also shared that Google plans to release the Android SDK for wearables soon. Obviously, this will spur further development on Google Glass, but it also indirectly confirms earlier rumors that Google is working on a smartwatch of some kind.
