click to dial not sending phone number

I've done a lot of searching and came up with no answers. . . When I click on a phone number in gmail or on a web site or google maps, it opens the dialer, but doesn't copy the number I clicked into it. . . The result is I have to memorize the phone number to dial it.

This is on a recently factory-reset Droid 2 Global.
