Why this one vs others?
No app icon or widget on your screen. Just set it to double or triple press the home button to click on or off the camera flash (aka flashlight). The only permission is allow access to the camera so the flash can be used as a light.
Lots of settings if you're into that sort of customizing,

or just leave it default.
Don't feel like it's not working if it doesn't instantly turn on/off when you toggle the home button. It takes a second for it to work.
Works on any phone with a home button, physical or on screen.

I've now set it to minimum in the notification bar so it doesn't show up when the bar is minimized but does when I pull it down for an easier way to turn on my flashlight. At 530 in the morning I'm not really good at counting presses on a home button so I just use that, tap the icon, light on to see the shop floor well enough to find the panel box to turn on the shop lights. I inherited a place with weirdly placed light switches ( the night light is nowhere near the panel box) so I use my phone to see at oh dark thirty when opening up.

Droid Light by Moto is the best flashlight out there. Why would you want a flashlight to stay in memory??

Not sure if you're familiar with how Android works. The notification area uses no more memory than an app icon, just like an app icon uses no cpu when not being actively used and even then it only uses cpu to count down from the auto time to shut off that is user set.
Glad you found another you like better but the beauty of Android is freedom of choices, thus why I wrote a small review about something that has a plethora of other choices.
If for some reason my should should need the minuscule amount of ram held in background for the app, Android will shut shut the app out of background (no cpu, no battery) . It's not like other operating systems that just build ram usage on top of each other until you run out of ram and have to manually close background applications to free up ram.

Super handy when I'm in the middle of something and need some light. I don't need fancy options. Just a light to come on when I need it with little to no hassle and to go off when I'm done.

That is what I love about Android though. Plenty of options to do more if you need it.

Some of us have been with Android so long most of the core stuff used to be either apps by Google on the Market or were aftermarket that was so popular they added it natively. Anybody remember when saving media to your SD card from Gmail required an app (Save To SD is what it was called)? Screen Shots apps?

Yes sir. Don't forget I've been in the game since the G1.

There are plenty of things I used to root my phone for that became stock.

I like to adopt the native stuff when it finally comes around. Frees up space for the next thing that will eventually become a standard feature.
