Configure Gmail

Hi Guys,
I am new to Android - HTC Eris. Bought the phone last week and playing around with it, the phone gives me WOW when ever I use it..sooo great.

Coming to the point – is there a way to REMOVE the gmail configuration setting. I am using Gmail App, but now I like to remove my account settings (remove username & password) and use the browser to access my mails instead of the Gmail App.
