Connecting to PC

Hi! I have recently dropped my Droid RAZR M and cracked the screen. The screen will currently not turn on but it still works. (I can hear vibrations when i try to type in password). I have been trying to connect it to my Samsung Windows 8 PC but have had no luck. I read somewhere that i have to have my phone unlocked for it to connect to the PC? All i have on my phone that i would like to retrieve is music and a few photos. Any idea on how i can unlock it? My PIN code is 73421 if that helps. Thanks in advance guys!

It isn't unlock that you might have needed but rather, root. Not the same thing. All I could suggest now would be what you might have been able to do to prevent the loss of the music and photos by syncing with the cloud. But I'm afraid the horse has left the barn already
