Considering the Fascinate

But I have a few questions. One thing I hate from reading the reviews is that Bing is the default search engine and there is "no way" to change this. I also read that it IS possible to switch to Google, but you have to be "rooted". I have been researching rooting, but still don't fully understand it. Is there another way to switch to Google without rooting?

Also, I know that FroYo will soon be available for Fasinate, but if I buy it now, with 2.1, can I switch to 2.2?

I have a Blackberry now, so I'm taking kind of a leap into the unknown haha My understanding is that "rooting" allows you to get rid of some of the "bloat" on the phone, such as un-used apps and tweaking the O/S. With Blackberry, you can go into "Applications" and delete unnecessary languages and apps. Is it sort of the same thing?

Thanks from a Wannabe Techie :)

The Bing thing is resolved by just downloading an apk file and you do not have to be rooted.

2.2 will be an OTA so you will get a notification on your phone and then you'll just install it.

Yes, with root access you can do much much more with your phone such has rename the unwanted apps not necessarily deleting them for now.

Yea bing fix wasnt hard, all in all got it rooted with launcher and it looks similiar to froyo. I think within the next few months people who went nuts over the droid X will start to regret not looking at this phone....let the nay sayers complain about bing, atleast I can view my screen in the sunlight :)
