Constant sync

I have the sync like circle in my status bar. it seems to really be lagging my phone. I prefer to have auto sync on so I get my gmail, but even turning it off doesn't remove the circle. It usually comes on and off very often, but today is on there constantly. Any way to change the sync intervals on this phone, or does anyone have a similar issue?

I am having a different issue. When I go to accounts and sync, and I try to sync it says it is currently experiencing problems and that it should be back soon.

I deleted some contacts on my google contacts, and everything got messed up in my contacts now though...and I'm missing half of my contacts. I need to sync cause I don't wanna put them in by one cause there's a lot, and it wont let me.

Anybody know how to fix the issue with gmail contacts not to syncing to the phone? It's annoying the hell out of me.
