Contact Groups no where to be found

I hope this isn't a repost, and if it is, I hope there's a solution.

I created groups in my contacts in gmail for my son's little league contacts. But when i go to the contacts on the phone menu > Display Group, all I get is (see attached).

Anybody have a fix for this?

If anyone is interested I cleared any data/cache associated with any app with "contacts" in the name. That seemed to work temporarily.

After it went away again, I restored to an earlier point, and so far so good.
