Hey folks...I have been enjoying my X and really never really needed to setup groups for txt msging but now it is getting to the point I really need too. I went to my gmail acct and the only contacts there are the ones that I have put in since I got my phone.

When I got my phone I used Verizons backup asst. to transfer my phone contacts. I'm lost on how to get all my contacts to move my gmail acct. I am using Handcent and my txt msgr.

Thanks

You can export contacts from your backup assistant (online) to a .csv file. Export to your desktop. Then import from your Gmail account.

PS- You need to "select" all your contacts at the backup assistant web page. Export can be found in the settings looking "wheel".

my friend is having the similar problem. she has a ton of contacts on her droid x, but on her gmail account online, she has less than 20. all sync boxes are checked on her phone. also, i manually changed my contact picture on her gmail and it won't show up on the phone. what gives? my droid 1 syncs perfectly all 200+ contacts. this is really annoying when using launcher pro's people widget.

Go back into Accounts & Sync and hit menu and Sync Now and see if that helps.

no i tried it several times. it didn't do anything.

I don't use Backup Asst. so I'm not 100% sure on this, but I believe I read somewhere that contacts in BA won't sync to your Gmail contacts, just like if you have more than one Gmail they won't cross sync (or like how your Facebook contacts, even though they show on your phone if selected to, they won't sync to your Gmail).

In order to get the contacts in the Gmail account you will have to import them like bigmac007 stated. Once they are there there should be no problem with the sync to Gmail to phone and vice versa.

so i did the whole csv file thing and stupid backup assistant online is only reading 51 of her 120 contacts. so when i make a csv file it only backs up 51!! wtf is wrong with this droid x?!

Try this and see what it says:
Open Contacts -> Hit Menu -> Select Display Group now it should list all your different groups that have contacts displayed. Select the Google/gmail group. Now see if the phone is displaying the same 20 or so contacts as the gmail account online. If it is then there isn't a problem with the account sync.

If you want to export all your contacts on your phone from all your groups to your gmail group do it this way:
Open Contacts -> Hit Menu -> Select More -> Select Import/Export -> Select Export contacts to: SD Card.
That will export all contacts from all groups to a .vcf (vCard file) to your SD Card. Take that file and transfer it to your computer (bluetooth, usb, dropbox, or however). Open your gmail account, select Contacts on the left, then under More Options select Import. Browse to where you placed the .vcf file and select it.

Once it is done you should have all your phone contacts from all groups in your gmail account.

Be careful though because when you sync your phone and gmail account you will probably have duplicate entries when viewing "All" contacts. You can either merge them or select only to view your gmail group.

Hope that helps.
