Contacts with Handcent app

Searched for hours and tried many of things but the problem is that my wife's S4 is having problem with sending messages since her phone automatically updated the other day. When going to type a new message I first click the "to" icon. Keyboard opens up and I begin to type the first letters of someones name. Nothing shows up. When clicking the plus sign next to it, all the contacts are there and I can manually find the name and it will work. Only when entering info into the "to" box nothing will show up. I even tried go pro sms and the problem is still the same. Could something with the syncing be doing this and not the handcent app? 2 different text messaging apps having the same problem.

Synced: Email, Facebook, Google. Don't see an Gmail account but was wondering if that is the problem?

Any help or a link to the solution would be appreciated.

Sometimes Android can act up and a simple battery pull can do a "soft reset" which can remedy pretty much any annoying issues.

Just for future reference, you can try clearing the cache of the app that's having problems. And if that doesn't work then try a battery pull. And if just a battery pull doesn't work, try taking both battery and SIM card out for a good minute.
