Controling media players remotely

What im looking for is a way to remotely control my media player (VLC, windows media player, media monkey, whatever) via an app or something I dont know about yet.

I saw this at a party few years bacjk where someone had an iphone linked to his computer. His computer was blairing music for the whole block. his house was locked and empty while we drank on the porch next door. When the cops came the music would pause. After a couple times he showed me that he was doing this through hi iphone. I still to this day chuckle when I think about it.

Now, he was using an iphone and an apple computer. But, I dont see why there would not be a way to do this with the motorola droid and any windows based media program.

Any suggestions?

+1 for gmote. Give that one a try.

Gmote works well, since I personally use XBMC for my media collection I use the remote found here: android-xbmcremote - Project Hosting on Google Code. It works well for me, and has only a few bugs they've been working on.

I use "Remote For iTunes" to control my iTunes on my laptop. It works really well I've found.

You could use a remote desktop app on the Droid but it's not quite as efficient IMO as a dedicated remote app.
