copying files over from PC

I need more help from the experts because I seem to be Android illiterate:

What do I have to do to move files from my PC over to my Droid 2? The phone comes up as "D drive: Motorola" - and is listed as a CD drive. When I try a drag and drop, I get the "+" sign on the file icon but when I try to leave it in the window for the droid it says, "You cannot copy or move files over to this CD-ROM drive." What am I doing wrong??? The PC found the device okay and installed the software. I ran the set-up application mannualy and it seemed to load fine. What gives???

I am certain I am missing something obvious but I need help finding it.

Tahnks in advance!

After plugging the Droid in, go to menu - notifications. Change to USB mass storage. It should show up on your PC just like any other USB drive. Then you can drag and drop.
I never used PC mode, so I don't know what it does.
