Custom Audio Effects Manager for Headsets

I'm trying to get DSP manager to work correctly without a ROM installed. I am running stock [rooted] Gingerbread, and I have the .apk for DSP manager, but it obviously conflicts with the stock sound manager. How do I disable this?
