has anyone else gotten a notification like this ? restarted my phone and it popped up ....

the notification went away after another reboot. but the notification had an option to format the sd card ... luckily i didnt pick it.

would hate to have to restore everything on the card if it was perfectly fine and just reformatted

Have you backed up the SD card yet? If not, I would do that ASAP.

There have been tons of complaints about this problem on the S4, especially with 64GB cards. Be certain to get the phone to format the replacement card.

one thing i didnt do when i popped the new card in was format.

ive got a 64gb card. would really really really suck if i had no choice but to format

concerning the problem: its probly the phone, right ? i havent updated the software with vz's latest ota ... i like my root setup ... so im unsure if the minor update fixed this.

There seem to be more VZW phones with the problem and slightly more SanDisk cards but nobody is certain the phone is the problem. Usually the first tit happens to card is pretty much unusable going forward. Don't shoot the messenger. :p

I had it happen with my SanDisk 32 GB class 10. Put it in my pc, which also wanted to format it. Aww Snap! Especially bad since I'd had some apps - like MyBackUp Pro - back my data up to my external SD.

I put it back in my phone, formatted it and then made a copy of everything on it once I had my G4 all set up and backed up again. Now I do that from time to time as a matter of practice but I've not had any further SD card issues.

Btw, you can also backup your phone or wireless transfer files between your phone and pc using Samsung Kies. I also use that from time to time to backup my whole phone in case something happens to it and I end up needing to migrate to a different one (which would be a really big Aww Snap! ) It's also a nice way to just move some files around.

This is actually a known issue with the VZW SGS4. VZW has a white paper on it, but no resolution. Free tip: if you call and complain that you cant safely store images on your SD and that you dont have enough internal memory internally, they will usually do a warranty replacement with a 32GB S4 for free.

Internal memory internally - redundancy is redundant. LOL

In theory any setup update based on Andriod past 4.2 should be able to utilize a SD card of any size. I had an issue with the 32G class 10 from SanDisk Ultra line. Returned it and was given a 64G instead. Haven't had a problem since.
