did anyone notice that the news/weather app that comes with ics is a data hog ?

i wasnt using it and its been pulling as much as streaming radio from tunein in one day ....

so over the past 15 days it used about 1.2 gb .... thats rediculous ... with no way to turn it off.

had to freeze it in titanium

Never noticed cause I disable it. Had no idea it was such a data hog though.

Mine is enabled but it's never used a single bit of data because I've never opened the app...

I noticed this too. If you do use the app you can go into Settings, Data usage to fix it. You have to set a data limit so if you are on an unlimited plan set it to 10 or 20GB. Then select the news/weather app and check the box to restrict background data. I use that app all the time and in the last week its only used 626KB.

I use the app all the time and I have never seen unusual data habits.

I only have it refresh every 6 hours.
If you have it set to more frequent refreshes and to prefetch images, I think high data makes since.

just freezing it in titanium did the trick but 2 gb a month for a built-in service is too much. i have unlimited data but dont need this app hogging bits so i get throttled when i need data for something else .....
