'date' display on homescreen

something I seem to find missing from my gNex is the 'date' display on the homescreen.. yes It does display when you bring it back from sleep while on the lock screen.
but, Im used to using my droid and hitting the time (top of scrren) and having a little pop up of time and date.

I do have beautiful widgets.. unfortunately.. I would like something smaller displayed on screen.. like what I get on the lock screen.

any ideas ?
