delemma

Okay... I got my droid 2 about a couple months ago. It is NOT rooted and I don't really wanna root it... but the real delemma here is... I'm not on any kind of wireless network where I live and I have no computer... I do have an xbox 360 though... and I've been reasearching this on and off since I got the phone... I've read about converting the format of your movies or videos and using a dlna... do you need to be rooted to change the format of movies or videos? And seeing that I have no wireless network can you still use the dlna process or do I have to go a different route there... if anyone could shed some light on this I would greatly apreciate it... thank you
