deleting lots of email quickly

i recently switched from the iphone where you can look at what's in you inbox, see lots of junk mail (just by the subject headers, and highlight several simultaneously, and click delete once to get rid of all of them. is there a way to do that with the droid so that you don't have to hold each email individually, wait for the delete option to come up, and then delete them one by one?? that's terribly inefficient

On my verizon account I tap menu, delete, at top is delete all. On my gmail the little check mark on the left I check the ones I want to delete, then delete at bottom.

I logged into my gmail account from my desktop and went to the account settings. In there I was able to delete more than 3k emails with a few taps. Now I can use the check mark method on the droid to keep up with the chore.
