"Developer Options"

Ok, so as I have said before, I am still learning.

I went to Best Buy yesterday, and came across a actual helpful, friendly and knowledgeable store associate who was actually a pleasure to talk to.

We sat there for a good 30 minutes or so, talking about the Note 7 and the 5g. Just a bunch of random. He asked to see my phone, I handed it to me.

Then he showed me how to turn on "Developer Options", I have no clue how. Pushed some button 7 times.

So my question is, what is developer options? Would it be beneficial to me to change any of the settings?

Side note: I have not messed with anything under this option. Wanted your input first.

He clicked the build number 7 times to unlock it.

You can change your animation speeds so screen close faster or slower, turn on USB debugging, etc. Lots of options.

The biggest thing I would possibly suggest for an "average" user to change would be Window animation scale, Transition scale and Animator duration scale. If you set those to a lower number, apps will open faster. If you turn them off, they'll open way faster, but it feels kind of jumpy. Even then, I really only suggest that on a phone that's showing its age and experiencing some lag when starting apps.

Ok so it is a good thing. And since I know nothing about it, I should google developer options? I am unsure what debugging is.

Ok I have the new S7. I do not currently notice a lag.

Also, if I do lower those numbers, do I need to power cycle afterwords?

Then I'd leave them alone.

Basically, those options are things that developers might want to tweak. There's a reason the menu is hidden by default for the average user. Most of it is not something you'll want to change, or at least not something you'll want to keep changed after checking it out.

Well, thank you. Especially since I have such poor signal strength, this is a blessing. Currently running on 3g
