Disable volume buttons

I have a D1 and I use the option to disable the lockscreen but when the volume button is pressed the screen comes on. Is their a way to disable the volume buttons when the screen is off?

im running cyanogenmod 7 on droid 1 and also have this problem. its rather annoying. anyone who could help i would really appreciate it.
