Display and battery question

The stock battery app for my d4.shows the battery draining the huge majority of my battery...up around 43% of the 50% total. I downloaded GSam Battery Monitor and it shows the dame thing but in more detail. It says that the display is drawing most of the battery when its 'dark'. What would this mean?
