Do I need a data plan to get online?

I plan on getting this phone soon and I'm curious as to whether or not I can simply use my home wifi network to get online.

All verizon smaprtphones require a $30 unlimited data plan without it you will not be allowed to activate it on your account. If you buy it offline and activate it yourself the data plan will automatically be added to the phone. As a side note all verizon wireless "multimedia phones" basically anything that isnt a basic flip phone now require a $10 data plan as well.
