Do you need 3G for sending and receiving text/email?

I DO NOT get 3G in my house, and it seem to me that when I am on my WiFi it does not send text or email.

Is this correct?

lol...

You don't need 3g for text messaging at all.

Text messaging isn't DATA it's something that if you have signal it works.

Sorry to burst anyones bubbles

1x is the talking network. All regular text messages are sent through the voice network.
MMS messages are sent on the evdo signal and are using the higher speed data.

Text messaging was around long before 3G. Text messaging works on the 1X, MMS works with EVDO (3G).

In other words, text messages are not sent via WiFi.

If you have no reception at all in your house (3G or 1X) then you won't be able to send/receive text messages.

The only exception I can think of is possibly if you're using Google Voice but I don't know if it will send/receive over WiFi or not.

It should, Google voice text is data.

SMS - Voice network (which is why there is a limit on characters)
MMS - Data network
Call - Voice network
GV SMS - Data network
GV Call - Voice network, but if you use the app, it uses data

Hate to burst your bubble, but no matter what your using, GV Call always uses the voice network to make/receive calls. It may use data to grab stuff from the servers for the program, but as for actually making/receiving calls on your gv # it's all on the voice network.
