Do You Think Big Red...

will ever get a vanilla android device for example a nexus type device or some other sort of official google phone and if so what do you guys/gals think it will be? I'm wondering what you guys think because more and more this is becoming very important to me especially as android grows as an OS and gets better and better with gingerbread right around the corner, I don't need some other skin covering what I find to be wonderful to begin with(IMHO) especially considering its still fairly early in its life(the OS that is) and with the nexusS coming down the pipeline along with the Etna, HDinc, the LG star which is high on my radar givin the fact I've heard it has vanilla android along with the Etna even though it has blur, just for the fact it's a beast and cannot be ignored. What do all think?

That's a good question, and I'll tell you this - if I could get a Nexus 2 that was CDMA and would run on Verizon's network, I'd FIND a way to buy it and use it - in a New York Minute! The Nexus 1 was one outstanding phone, and the indications are that the Nexus 2 will be even better.

I have this feeling though that the marriage of Verizon and Google/Nexus will never come to be. Moreover, I wonder if Verizon will EVER let any vanilla android phone onto their system. I don't know why they wouldn't - it's just a feeling that I get, a sense of where we're headed, and it's sad.

My two cents worth.

Realistically I doubt it. Forum enthusiasts tend to overlook how small a fraction of the overall market they make up. Corporations tend to cater to where the money is.

If this is a must-have for you I'd recommend switching to a GSM carrier. There tend to be more options out there for GSM users.

It's not a "must-have", but it'd be sweet. As to switching to a GSM carrier, I'm not anti-GSM, just not real fond of the two main players in that area. AT&T and I have had our differences in the past, and T-Mobile isn't that big of a factor around Cleveland. Not a negative thing, just not a big player on The North Coast.

well I refuse to go to AT&T but I could potentially see myself switching to T-Mobile although it's unlikely but a Nexus device could sway me away from VZ but it's hard to say because everytime I say that they launch some must have device and I'm not sure about Tmo presence in my area
