Does buying a droid outside of Verizon matter?

I made an earlier post asking where the best deal for a droid is? Got some good ideas but someone posted this affects your warranty with verizon. Is this true? If I was to get a droid through Best Buy or Dell would that void my warranty with verizon or affect it in any way? Does that mean if something is wrong with the Droid I would take it back to Best Buy and not Verizon?

It is a verizon phone. It shouldn't matter where you bought it from. I bought my old one from circuit city before they closed down in my area, and i still dealt with verizon. BB is an authorized reseller of the devices, it should not matter. (Merely saying SHOULDN'T, not saying it doesn't)

I work for Best Buy Mobile,

Here's the info you would like. If you buy a phone from Best Buy Mobile it DOES NOT have any affect your warranty at all. You have the option to still get the Verizon Insurance either way. If you have an issue within the first 30 days you take it back to Best Buy Mobile, outside of that you CAN still take it to Verizon.

You have a year's manufacture warranty that Verizon has to take in consideration.

Example: My friend got the Samsung Glyde from Best Buy when it came out. Had issues with it after about 7 months. He took it into a Verizon store, and they replaced it for him. Of course this will be case by case, but the point is that it DID NOT affect him buying it from Best Buy Mobile.

We do everything Verizon does other then Mail in rebates, paying your bill, and filing insurance claims.

Any questions just ask :)

i posted the same response in your other thread:
My best friends uncle works for verizon and told me that honestly cause he's a good friend. He said " if we found your droid was bought from a third party, you have to deal with them for warranty and replacements, it will have warranty- but from the store/place you bought it from"
Thats what he said in exact words cause i asked him a million questions about the droid haha. to me i'd rather buy it from a third party since its cheaper.:) Sorry if i made confusion but thats what he told me being a Verizon employee for their service center.

Taypotts- so we are able to buy it from a third party? Say i bought a droid from bestbuy mobile and it broke. Do i have to go to you guys to get it fixed or Verizon?

You can take it back to Best Buy Mobile in the first 30 days, and you are more then welcome to bring it back to us for manufacture defects after that, and we will see if we can exchange it under manufacture warranty (fingers crossed) I would say to take it back to Verizon to get it taken care of.

They can't really ask where you got it, and if they do, they don't really have record of where you did. For all they know you got it at a Verizon store in another state.

Outside Warranty

Lame

Please tell me which Verizon store will help me with my phone. I purchased my Droid through Dell and today was my 30th day with phone, it has completely malfunctioned but the Verizon store refused to help me they said I need to deal with Dell. I did not tell them where I got it, they were able to look that up and once they knew I did not purchase it from Verizon they refused to help. I need a working phone so they sold me a new one for $574.00. This seems unfair as I just got done paying over $300 only 30 days ago. Any stores in Southern CA that you could recommend that would help me with this dilemma.

I will NEVER buy another phone directly from Verizon. I got SCREWED hard when I bought my Tour through them. Bottom line (based on my experience):

Buying from Best Buy has these advantages:
- seems cheaper than buying from VZW
- no stupid rebates that I saw
- 30-day return policy without restocking fee (VZW charges you restocking fee) * this makes it worth it by itself...my Tour had a bad trackball and I could have just exchanged it or brought it back to Best Buy, VZW wanted to charge a restocking fee and claimed the trackball was working properly...though CLEARLY it was not.
I got rid of my Tour after 3 months (which I didn't want and VZW would not take it back within the 30 days -- long story) If it wasn't for the Droid, I would have left VZW and got the iphone and ate the ETF just based on my experience buying directly from those pricks. Never again.

I always buy from a corp store... Been doing so for over a decade.
Great Service and they treat me well....Never an issue exchanging a phone.

I was told if you get a phone from somewhere outside of Verizon then you need to take it back there within the 30 day return policy. If it is past the 30 days then you need to have insurance and then Verizon will deal with you on that. Did you have insurance on the phone?

I got mine from Best Buy for 120 no problem. Got the insurance through them also.

I've had better luck dealing with VZW via the tele or web. I always get a better deal that way vs going to corp. store.
