Does GPS on/off effect G3 and Internet?

On my Moto Droid, if I go to setting and then to location and security, the top part controls "Location" with GPS features. I've been looking for ways to help conserve battery.

If I turn off "Use wireless networks" and "Use GPS satellites" will that turn off the G3 connection for internet/email/facebook and such, or is it only for GPS location, for driving directions and such?
