Does WiFi need to be on before you start app?

If I start Wifi but it doesn't finish connecting before I start the app I want to use it with, will the app still take advantage of it?

For example... I turn WiFi on then immediately start YouTune before I see the connection has been made. Will YouTube switch over and start using Wifi even though it wasn't connected when YouTube first started?

Make sense?

Not sure I understand the question...but If you have a router for example that your phone is configured to connect to, it should pick it up right away. If you do not have an internet connection, you cannot connect to the internet. Think as if you have a wireless laptop and a router in your house. Until that connection is picked up, you will not get on the internet. think in your question you are asking something else...because no connection, no internet is pretty basic...even for me...

Hmm....

Yes, the phone is recognized via router.

When I start WiFi on the phone, it doesn't immediately put up the WiFi connection icon in the status bar. It takes 5-8 seconds. I assume this is because it's starting up the connection and needs a few seconds.

I am wondering if you start Wifi and then immediately start a program that uses WiFi, will the program use the WiFi rather than the mobile network -OR- do you need to start WiFi and wait for the connection icon before you start the app.
