Droid 2 Camera Zoom

I cant get my D2 Camera to zoom in for closer pics.
am i missing something? i double tap the screen & tried everything i could think of but i cant get it to work. surely it's capable of doing this isn't it?

It's the volume rocker.

on my droid 2 when I hold the camera sideways the volume buttons on top become my zoom buttons

i knew it would be something that would make me feel stupid :icon_evil:
i double tapped & pushed every other button a million times but i never thought to push the volume buttons...
